Challenge Charter Middle utilizes EngageNY Math modules to support Common Core State Standards (CCSS)-aligned math instruction.  Our math offerings consist of rigorous and diverse math courses that support the process and content strand of the CCSS. Mathematical studies include a range of levels for Number Sense, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Probability and Statistics. The CCSS in math allow for the integration of literacy across subject areas such as science and social studies. These skills are needed for 21st century careers in science, technology, engineering and math. 

Our middle school math curriculum materials provide the vehicles for scholars to meet the mathematical demands presented by colleges and careers, develop procedural proficiency, and use mathematical thinking in varied real-life situations.

Unlike other subject areas where there are heterogeneous classrooms of students, Challenge Charter Middle School [CCMS] offers an additional math track for accelerated students. The accelerated track provides a pathway for students who have the capacity to take Calculus or AP Calculus by their senior year of high school with a way to do so by providing a track for students to take Algebra I by 8th grade.

This track allows students to take the Integrated Algebra Regents exam by 8th grade potentially earning them 2 high school Math credits by the time they complete CCMS. While CCMS strives to have all students ready to take Algebra I by 8th grade, the reality is that there are scholars who are better served by taking the standard math sequence which terminates in pre-algebra in 8th grade in preparation for Algebra I in 9th grade. It is important to note that the tracks are not static: students have the ability to move into the accelerated track based on demonstrated achievement in math.
