Challenge Charter Middle School is WELLNESS!
Challenge Charter Middle School (CCMS) scholars engage in daily physical fitness/education activities integrated with health education as called for in NYSED regulations. Besides its value in fighting obesity, school-based physical education has also been linked in multiple studies and literature reviews to improved academic achievement and improved cognition.
Health education is coordinated with community resource programs, community social workers and family services personnel provide appropriate instruction in human sexuality and drug and alcohol prevention.
In the spring of 2018, CCMS began to offer dance classes in partnership with the Alvin Ailey Arts in Education Program. This program offers our scholars a new physical challenge while increasing their knowledge about historical dance and cultural drumming practices.
